Did you know?
“Books constitute capital. A library book lasts as long as a house, for hundreds of years. It is not, then, an article of mere consumption but fairly of capital, and often in the case of professional men, setting out in life, it is their only capital.” - Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826), U.S. president.

Visiting the Library

The Trinity College Library is maintained by Trinity College for use by members of the Trinity Community. Members of the general public may also have in-building access to the Library's collections. The Library will, on occasion and based upon need, extend borrowing privileges to scholars outside the Trinity community. Access to some collections and/or materials is by application to the appropriate curator or other library officer. Materials in the Watkinson Library, which is a specialized research collection, are non-circulating and may only be used under the supervision of its professional staff. As a select depository for United States government publications, the Library's Documents Collection is available to the general public without special application procedures.

Visitors' Hours

When the Library is open, the Library welcomes guests until 10pm; after 10pm the Library is reserved for use by members of the Trinity community. There are times during the academic terms when the library is closed to guests. Please check our Hours and Directions page for specific days and times.

Visitor Registration

Visitors to the Library are requested to sign the Guest Register at the Circulation Desk on Level A, a valid government issued ID is required, and guests under 18 must be accompanied by a chaperone aged 21 or older.

Hartford Consortium for Higher Education

Students from member institutions of the Hartford Consortium for Higher Education are admitted during regular visitors' hours. Borrowing privileges are given to students from HCHE member institutions only when they are currently enrolled in a course at Trinity through the Consortium's cross-registration program. These same guidelines govern Trinity students' access to the libraries of other Consortium members.

CTW

Students, faculty and staff of Connecticut College and Wesleyan University provided they present a valid ID, from their home institution are welcome during the Library's open hours.  CTW patrons with a valid ID have borrowing privileges provided that they are not blocked from borrowing because of outstanding obligations.
