Pamphlet Binders

Pamphlet binders used to protect any item with weak paper covers that is too thin to be worth sending out for commercial binding.  For new items, these are added after receiving but before other pasting steps are done.

Steps:

  1. Select pamphlet binder closest to the size you need.
  2. Fit pamphlet into the binder and draw a line across the bottom.
  3. Cut on line with paper-cutter.
  4. If cover is high-gloss, sandpaper finish off about 1/2 inch in from spine on front and back covers.
  5. Trim a triangle off from the top and bottom of binder tape.
  6. Wet tape; also apply white glue for additional support.
  7. Fit pamphlet into binder and wipe with dry cloth.
  8. Draw line down side of book and cut on this line.
  9. If extra support is needed to hold the book in the binder, use the special white linen tape and the white glue.  Use the tape to cover both the binder tape and the facing of the book, inside both the front and back covers.

Title labels for binders:

Type and add a Dennison label (with red border) to the cover.  Center the label on the typewriter.  Capitalize the first word of the title and all other words except articles and prepositions.

When done, place the item on the pasting shelf.  Bookplate will get placed inside the front cover of the binder and the barcode will get placed on the cover of the binder.
