The Association of Religion Data Archives allows you to examine data on American and international religious life in multiple ways.  You can use online visualization tools (profiles, maps, trees) or download the data for more sophisticated analyses.

The data archive contains downloadable datasets from surveys of denominations and religious leaders and surveys of the general American population on their thoughts about religion.  The archive also contains datasets on church membership throughout the United States and across time.

ARDA's mapping tool allows you to map congregation membership across the United States or within a given state.  You can then match membership distribution to other population characteristics (race, ethnic origin, education, etc).
