Many of the institutional records in the College Archives
contain confidential information, and access to such records is
restricted. Following are guidelines for the research use of archival
material.
I. Archival Material dating from the College's founding
in 1823 to 1920
A. General and Administrative Records
The following may be used without restriction:

Descriptions of the College, its founding, its first campus
in downtown Hartford, its relocation to the Summit Campus in
1878, and information on campus buildings.

Photographs

Official College publications

Information about lectures, programs and campus events

Course descriptions

Administrative reports and general records

Biographical data of public record concerning the presidents

Papers and correspondence of the presidents
B. Records Relating to Students, Faculty, Staff
and Alumni:
The following may be used without restriction:

Publications by and about students, faculty, staff and alumni

Student newspapers and the Ivy yearbook

Undergraduate and alumni scrapbooks

Athletic records
-
Descriptions of student activities
-
Records of student organizations
-
Papers and correspondence of faculty and alumni

Biographical data of public record concerning faculty, staff
and administrative officers
C. Files of Deceased Alumni
In connection with historical and genealogical research, the
following information contained in the files of members of the
graduating classes from 1827 to 1920 inclusive may be consulted
without restriction:
1. Biographical data of public record appearing in print, including
obituaries, published eulogies, entries in biographical directories,
and newspaper and magazine articles, etc. With the permission
of the College Archivist, biographical data provided by the alumnus,
a relative, or other source may also be consulted. Family members
and administrative officers of the College may consult all materials
in a file.
2. Scholarship applications and grade reports, if any, are not
available for general consultation. However, such material may
be consulted by family members and administrative officers of
the College.
II. Archival Material dating from 1921 to the present
A. General and Administrative Records
The following may be used without restriction:

officers of the College relating to students, faculty and staff,
and material relating to the official transactions of the Board
of Trustees.
B. Records Relating to Students, Faculty, Staff
and Alumni
The following may be used without restriction:

Publications by and about students, faculty, staff and alumni

III. General and Administrative Records (Restricted Access)
A. The following general and administrative records contain
confidential information and are not available for research
use. Only administrative officers of the College or designated
representatives of the creating bodies (e.g. the Faculty) can
consult this material in connection with official College business:
- Minutes of the Board of Trustees
- Minutes of the Faculty
- Trustee and Faculty committee minutes, supporting papers and
reports
- Files and reports of the Dean of the Faculty and other administrative
officers
- Papers of Trinity's presidents, 1943 to the present
