The greatest concentration of material concerns England with extensive primary and historic secondary sources, both monographs and pamphlets, from the 16th through the 19th centuries. These include: general histories military and naval histories memoirs and other writings of public figures calendars of early state papers material on cities, especially London monuments place names On a more limited scale, there are similar holdings relating to Scotland and Ireland. Other publications cover British local history, including series issued by the Chetham, Harleian, Lancashire and Cheshire, Surtees, and Thoresby Societies as well as individual monographs.
