BOX 6/1 RESIST COLLECTION- 1967-69 ACTIVITIES- RESIST FOUNDATION

Box 6/1 of the Resist Collection is possibly one of the most important in the entire collection for the understanding of the birth of Resist and its foundations. This box is a collection of 115 files cataloguing the activities which Resist either organized or took part in before its inception, and during its first two years. The political events of the time which were taking place around Resist were the driving forces for its creation and the foundation of its premise. Included in this box are the original draft copies and final copies of the "Call to Resist Illegitimate Authority" issued in October of 1967 in the New York Review of Books and the New Republic Magazine. The signed returns of those who placed their names in favor of this manifesto are also included. Signatures of many of those who also signed the initial published copy of the "Call" are also found in this collection. These include: Noam Chomsky, Benjamin Spock, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, among others. This collection also contains information and supporting materials surrounding the Spock Trial, the march on the Justice Department in October of 1967, as well as draft resistance organizations projects which took place throughout the years 1967-1969.
