Instruction Requests

From First Year seminars to senior-thesis methodology classes, the library’s Research and Instruction Department provides information-literacy instruction for faculty and students.

Faculty may wish to collaborate with librarians on developing research programs for specific courses or assignments. If so, our site on collaborative teaching, Learning Connections, displays some possibilities for doing so.

We encourage faculty to schedule library instruction as far in advance as possible. We prefer at least two weeks' time between the date of the request and the date of the instruction session. To prepare for research instruction sessions, instruction librarians meet with the faculty members to review the objectives of the courses and assignments related to the instruction.

Students may also schedule individual research appointments with reference librarians. These appointments often follow instruction sessions.

The Library Learning Center on level A is used for many types of research instruction, including demonstrations and guided research opportunities for students. Evening workshops include sessions on specific resources or research consulting sessions.
