Add Library Resources to Moodle

What is it?

This page explains how you can incorporate a variety of library resources to your course's Moodle site. This will allow your students to directly access course-related library resources from within Moodle. This page tells you how to add these blocks to Moodle:

"Ask a Librarian" Chat
Library Resources
Collaborate with a Subject Librarian in Moodle
Connect Students to a Subject Librarian
Course Guide and Course Reserves

"Ask a Librarian" Chat

This block allows your students to instantly contact a librarian via instant messaging, right from within Moodle. When a librarian is not available to chat, the options to email the library or make an appointment with a librarian are displayed instead.

Here is what the 'Ask a Librarian' Moodle Block looks like:

Collaborate with a Subject Librarian in Moodle

Adding a librarian as a collaborator in your Moodle course can be helpful for your students.

  1. Log into your Moodle course.
  2. Click the turn editing on button button.
  3. From the Administration menu, choose Assign Roles.

NOTE: the Teacher role will allow the librarian to add blocks and resources to the course site. If you prefer to give Non-editing teacher or Student role, the librarian will be able to participate in online class discussions and see the course contents, but will not be able to add blocks or resources to the course site.
  5. Search or browse to find the librarian's name.
  6. Highlight the librarian's name then click the Add button button.
